I’ve been sitting at home and occasionally popping on Facebook
and various other social media sites here and there throughout the day, mostly
to share pictures of my dog or my face. (You’re welcome. I’m not sorry.) And every so often I catch glimpses of things
people are posting in the wake of this election. While most of the things
posted are from people that agree with me politically (Because I like to think
I make good choices?) there are a few people that have opposing viewpoints.
And some of these people are fucking trolls.
There is no doubt common fears amongst varying generations
with the president-elect being Donald Trump.
And of everything that I have seen posted (including a celebratory
article written about Rosie O’Donnell leaving the country… BECAUSE WHO FUCKING
CARES?!?!) the thing that pisses me off the most is this shaming of people for
having feelings. Because people are scared, nervous, angry and apprehensive and
suddenly we shouldn’t have these feelings or share them in the collective spaces
that we have in social media, to connect with others who share these feelings
just as others do on the opposite spectrum.
First of all, these are some of the same people who have
whined and bitched and have thrown accusations around since the election of Obama.
It was perfectly fine for you to do that then, but suddenly it’s not okay for
others to do, especially the younger generation. And to shut out the emotions
and tell people that they shouldn’t feel is entirely stupid. Educate yourself
psychologically, please. Also, remember
the sage advice, “Go with your gut’? This is OUR gut telling us that shit is
coming not only because of things he has said, but also things he has done
(racism and assault.)
And so yes, many of us are fearful of what this violence inducing,
misogynistic, racist trash will do to our country. Yes. He is trash. His entire
platform was based off inciting fear in people. It works. Fear is a powerful
motivator. Fear is also a FUCKING FEELING. Which, worked for those who voted
for Trump. So, you were motivated by
your deep-seated racism and misogynistic fear to vote for this guy that will
“Make America Great Again,” we can be fearful of what this “greatness” means. And
if you’re going to wave your flag around and claim that America is the greatest
country ever (and you do.) Then, how exactly do we make it great again, since
it’s already been said that it is the greatest. And then want to sit there and
tell others that we should have pride in our country and if we don’t like it we
can get the hell out. Honestly, if I could. I would because right now, I have
very little pride in what is happening to this country.
I’m tired of this hatred going back and forth. These
blatantly condescending posts, which I myself have even done (because I can admit
when I am wrong.) Can we all just take a step back and remember our humanity?
Because that is what makes America great and reminds me why people came to this
country (I mean white people, obviously) Here’s a hint: it was in search of
freedom. Freedom of choice. We have a choice, which means that you can choose
to support that no talent ass-clown and I can continue to think that his
election is the scariest thing to happen in my lifetime. What you don’t get to do
is invalidate our fears with your petty and ridiculous “that hurts my feelings”
rhetoric because everyone feels. And the fact that you have something to say
about others or my feelings says you have feelings too, and that is that you
don’t like the way we feel.
Feelings are valid.
Great to see you writing again. Plus, I love the F Word.
